I’ve arrived in Deadhorse. The shuttle bus doesn’t pick me up till tomorrow so I’m eating at the cafe. Tonight I’ll camp outside of town along the river and catch the bus in the morning. The bus ride is at least 17 hours so won’t be back in Fairbanks till 1:00 am Thursday (Alaska time).
Final mileage Seattle to Deadhorse 3038 miles. Temperature in Deadhorse 45F and it was 37F last night.
While in town I’ve decided to take a guided tour to the Arctic Ocean because individual civilian access is not allowed because of security reasons.
To a large extent it was a tour of the oil facilities in Prudhoe Bay which was interesting.
But the fun was wading in the ocean. The water is 36F but surprisingly didn’t feel that bad. Swimming is not allowed, not that I wanted to anyway.
Bob Brabham => While you are running around in the cool climate at the Arctic Circle, please be advised that it was 101 degrees in Chapin yesterday, with a heat index of 118. Enjoy your vacation!
Ken => It is you who are the animal, and whom all the world should fear! (just ask the wolf, who whimpered away). Well done, big brother. At this point I think it's safe to say there is no bicycle adventure that you could not conquer. Be safe.
