The day's highlight was the ride over Atigun Pass which is the highest point on the Dalton highway. Claude and I were camped at the same location, called Farthest North Spruce, so we rode up together. It was delightfully cool when we started the assent up the first steep two mile section. The road then levels for five miles and continues steeply (12% grade) to the top. The road was surface rough and you needed to be careful going down the other side too. I’m now camped at the beginning of the North Slope section which is treeless arctic tundra.
