Day 35 - Rolling the Alaska Highway

June 14, 2011 - 66.55 miles - Total so far: 1828 miles

Today was my first full day riding the Alaska Highway. It was big rolling hills going up and down about 300 feet each hill. The road was initially easy riding with a wide shoulder although the surface was somewhat rough. There aren’t a lot of cars but the speed limit is 100 km (62 mph) so it it’s noisy. Late in the day, as I neared the looming mountains, the the road was unpaved gravel. The cars and trucks don’t want to slow down so the kick up a lot of dust. Plus the gravel surface is slow going for me.

Tonight I’m camped on the Rancheria River.

barbara greenberg => Unpaved gravel road??Is this going to be the norm?Do cyclists travel this road?Take care!!
