Day 8 - Cogs Are Important Too

May 18, 2011 - 34.09 miles - Total so far: 363.9 miles

The weather was cool and this morning when I awoke. I ate breakfast, packed up, and was heading out of the park entrance when I noticed my gears were clicking peculiarly. Checking the chain I found a nearly separated link. I repaired the link, checked the rest of the chain and gears. All seemed Ok so I took off down the road.

At about eleven my chain breaks while I’m changing gears and climbing a steep section. I fixed the link but was now concerned that there was something else wrong with the derailleur. I finally found the problem one of the cog’s seals had broken. Since it was the primary cog I switched it with the secondary. All looks good for now. I’ll get it to a bike shop next chance I get. Good news is engine is running great.

My ride took me passed Lake of the Woods and through several tunnels. Tonight I’m camped a Simon Fraiser Park near the Hell’s Gate Canyon.
